Dibenzothiophene (DBT) has served as a model compound in biodegradation studies, and its desulfurization pathway removes this sulfur. The conversion of Dibenzothiophene to 2-hydroxybiphenyl is catalyzed by a multienzyme pathway consisting of two monooxygenases and a desulfinase. [1]
