Description Sclareol, a labdane-type diterpene isolated from clary sage (Salvia sclarea), exerts growth inhibition and cytotoxic activity against a variety of human cancer cell lines.
In vitro
In vitro Sclareol, a labdane-type diterpene isolated from clary sage (Salvia sclarea), exerts antitumor effects in various cell lines. Sclareol is able to inhibit DNA synthesis induce arrest at the G(0/1) phase of the cycle apoptosis independent of p53 in human breast cancer cell lines. [1] Intra-tumoral injection of Sclareol reduces tumor growth in vivo against breast cancer. [2] Sclareol also exhibits anti-inflammatory activity in LPS-stimulated macrophages by decreasing inflammatory cytokines expression and increasing antioxidant enzyme activity. [3]
