Biological Activity

Description Demethylcantharidin (norcantharidin) is a synthetic analogue of cantharidin and has potent antitumor activity.
In vitro
In vitro Demethylcantharidin (DMC) is also found to be highly effective in inhibiting the growth of mouse hepatocytes, with an IC50 of about 10 μM[1].

Method Cells are seeded in 96-well microtiter plates (1×104/well; 100 μl) and allowed to equilibrate in quadruplicate wells and exposed to drugs (cisplatin, 1-5 and DMC: 2-200 μM; carboplatin: 50-3000 μM) for 72 h. After which, MTT (5 mg/ml, 20 ml) in phosphate-buffered saline is added and the cells are incubated for 4 h at 37℃. MTT/medium is then removed and the formazan product is dissolved in DMSO (150 ml) and absorbance is measured at 570 nm using a microtiter plate reader
