Biological Activity

Description Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant formulated as a mixture of E-(trans) and Z-(cis) stereoisomers. It inhibits CYP2D6 activity in vivo.
In vitro
In vitro Doxepin inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine. Its actions of the reuptake of dopamine are negligible. Doxepin also has antagonistic effects at a variety of receptors including receptors of H1, H2, 5-HT1, 5-HT2, α1-adrenergic and mACh.
