Biological Activity

Description Royal jelly acid (10-Hydroxy-trans-2-decenoic acid, 10H2DA) is the principal lipid component in royal jelly which is the food for queen and larvae honeybees. It is involved in several treatment processes of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including inhibition of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)- and interferon (IFN)-γ-stimulated macrophage responses, inhibition of T-cell proliferation and anti-rheumatoid activity.
In vitro Royal jelly acid (10H2DA) is a unique fatty acid found specifically in royal jelly and shows various pharmacological activities. With respect to inhibition of innate immune signals, however, 10H2DA shows a quite restricted effect which is dependent upon the stimulation[1].
In vivo The Royal jelly acid (10H2DA) concentration that can inhibit innate immune signals is more than a few millimolars, but reaching the effective concentration when administering to the gastrointestinal tract or skin is relatively easy[1].
