Description | L-Cystine is the oxidized dimer form of the amino acid L-cysteine which is a non-essential amino acid of the human body. It is required for wound healing and formation of epithelial tissue. |
---|---|
In vitro | L-cysteine can enhance proliferation and differentiation of NSCs via the CBS/H2S pathway[1]. |
In vivo | L-Cysteine dose-dependently decreases food intake in both rats and mice following oral gavage and intraperitoneal administration. L-Cysteine increases neuronal activation in the area postrema and delayed gastric emptying. It suppresses plasma acyl ghrelin levels and does not reduce food intake in transgenic ghrelin-overexpressing mice. Repeated L-cysteine administration decreases food intake in rats and obese mice. L-Cysteine reduces hunger and plasma acyl ghrelin levels in humans[2]. |
