Biological Activity

Description Vitamin U (Methylmethioninesulfonium Chloride, Cabagin-U, Smethylmethionine) is a vitamin found in green vegetables. It is used in the treatment of peptic ulcers, colitis, and gastritis and has an effect on secretory, acid-forming, and enzymatic functions of the intestinal tract.
In vitro
In vitro Vitamin U inhibits adipocyte differentiation via down-regulation of adipogenic factors and up-regulation of AMPK activity[1]. Vitamin U, also known as S-methyl methionine is found to increase activity of S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine. This decreases the inhibition of S-adenosyl-L-homocystein and stimulates methylation process[2].
Cell Research Cell lines 3T3-L1 pre-adipocyte cell lines
Concentrations 10, 50, 70, 90, 100 mM
Incubation Time 24 h
Method 3T3-L1 cells are treated with lipopolysaccharide (100 ng), interferon-γ (10 ng) and different concentrations of S-methylmethionine sulfonium chloride (50, 70, 90, 100 mM). After cells are incubated for 24 hr, MTT (5 mg/ml) is added. Then, the supernatant is discarded, dimethyl sulfoxide is added to the cells and formazan is formed via MTT reduction. Cell viability is measured using an ELISA at 570 nm.
In Vivo
In vivo "vitamin U" is recommended for treating oesophagogastric lesions, chronic gastric ulceration, chronic gastritis, ulcerative colitis, diaphragmatic hernias and peptic ulcers. "Vitamin U" is also recommended as a preventive vitamin for the digestive and intestinal systems. It is found that vitamin U can be used as a donor of methyl groups during bacterial DNA methylation in vivo without changing the specificity of DNA methylation. Vitamin U dose-dependently lowers the increased plasma LDL and normalizes the decreased HDL in dietary-induced hyperlipidemic rats[2].

Method for preparing DMSO master liquid: mg drug pre-dissolved in μL DMSO ( Master liquid concentration mg/mL, Please contact us first if the concentration exceeds the DMSO solubility of the batch of drug. )

Method for preparing in vivo formulation: Take μL DMSO master liquid, next addμL PEG300, mix and clarify, next addμL Tween 80, mix and clarify, next add μL ddH2O, mix and clarify.

Method for preparing in vivo formulation: Take μL DMSO master liquid, next add μL Corn oil, mix and clarify.

Note: 1. Please make sure the liquid is clear before adding the next solvent.
2. Be sure to add the solvent(s) in order. You must ensure that the solution obtained, in the previous addition, is a clear solution before proceeding to add the next solvent. Physical methods such
as vortex, ultrasound or hot water bath can be used to aid dissolving.
